Story

You are cordially invited to the Pappas’ Manor, where centuries of deep rooted secrets have been made. Do you have what it takes to reveal them all and become part of the family, or will you become just another secret?

Initiates embark on an immersive quest to perform archaic rituals in exchange for induction into an enigmatic sect. After breaking into the shadowed lair, hopeful candidates must unlock the cult’s hidden ceremonial chamber to begin the sacred rites for membership.

Postulates are tasked with unveiling the cult’s arcane genealogy and completing all of the steps of the dark liturgy. The question is, can even the most devoted finish in time to become the next inductees to be inscribed on the ancestral wall?

Scenic

The Manor makes strong use of its small blueprint, with a few surprising reveals which open up new hidden areas to explore. From the start candidates are placed in separate chambers of a dark, subterranean cavern. The very first challenge is to bridge the stone divide to unite for the ominous trial ahead which leads down a dark tunnel shrouded in secrets.

Once the cult’s inner sanctum is breached, aspirants are greeted with a sacrificial shrine, numerous ancient symbols scribbled on the spines of time-worn texts, a display of heraldic crests, and a heavy lectern holding a weathered tome. Followers must master the lore of the consecrated armaments, interpret the cryptic runes, and reveal the sanctuary where the ritual vestments and sacred vessels lie in order to successfully perform this esoteric rite.

Puzzles

There are neither keyed nor combination locks to be found in this storyworld, as all puzzles are aligned to the dark fantasy theme of The Manor. The tasks are sufficiently challenging, intuitive, well connected to the narrative, and heavily reliant on tactile engagement appropriate to the game. Because written clues and cryptic texts abound, meticulous reading and attention to detail are imperative to successfully navigate the steps of the initiation ceremony and escape the lair in time.

Some of the puzzles in The Manor do require mild physical activity. Prospective cult members are required to stoop down as well as interact with objects in other ways, which might make the game difficult to access for those with limited mobility.

There is no visible timer in the lair. Applicants must verbally request a time check to be informed of how many minutes are left to complete the initiation ceremony.

Overall

Lovecraftian horror enthusiasts will appreciate the dark immersive atmosphere of The Manor, with its eerie cult imagery and archaic props. The dim lighting, thematic scenery, and engaging puzzles work together to bring this narrative to life.

Although the game capacity is listed as up to eight players, the room will most comfortably hold closer to four adults due to the small nature of the space as well as the linear design of the puzzle flow.

The Manor is listed as one of the most challenging games at Escape Room Louisiana due to the volume of puzzles to solve, so this adventure may prove difficult for first-time truth seekers. Due to the occult references in The Manor, parental guidance is recommended for initiates under the age of 13.

Escape Room Louisiana has crafted an innovative experience with an intriguing storyline and unique puzzles worthy of aspiring acolytes.
