Review: The Search for Sasquatch

RATING: 5 Keys          RESULT: Win          REMAINING: 8:21

The hunt is on! Do you have what it takes to find Bigfoot and finally obtain proof it exists?

Story

After seeing the Local News Report about Bigfoot being in your area, curiosity soon gets the best of you. The search is on!
Can you take a picture to prove Bigfoot is out there without scaring him away?

Everyone has heard stories their entire life. Bigfoot. Sasquatch. Yeti. Abominable. The missing link between humans and what came before. Unfortunately, nobody has ever had the courage, luck, determination, and skills to track the creature and find proof that it actually exists. Interestingly enough, the Breckenridge local news is reporting possible Bigfoot activity in the area; it’s the perfect opportunity to find Sasquatch, sneak into his cave, and snap a picture before it flees.

The moon climbs high above the rocky mountains as your journey begins. It’s now or never. Can you brave the elements, find the elusive beast, and bring validation to the never ending debate of the existence of Bigfoot?

Scenic

One step into The Search for Sasquatch and the scenic design boxes begin to check themselves off automatically. Mountain Time Escape Rooms has impressively created an entirely outdoor setting, complete with seemingly-active campfire, ranger outpost, fresh water pond, and lush vegetation. Small forest-dwelling critters can be seen tucked among the trees and foliage.

The floor is completely covered in turf, cementing the transportation from strip mall to mountain top campsite. Lighting is obviously dim throughout the experience (as it is nighttime) and flashlights are provided to see through the darkness.

Mountain Time Escape Rooms does a really nice job with the authenticity of its building materials. Each individual set piece looks and feels real, like its been there long before the adventurers who have just arrived. Enduring the experience in low lighting also adds to the immersion factor for this escape game, as it provides the feel of genuinely sneaking through a camp ground in the twilight.

Another aspect of the design that should not go unmentioned is the soundtrack. Mountain Time Escape Rooms provides a continuous track that plays throughout the game, using the haunting stillness of the wilderness with occasional animal noises to complete the transformation. The emergence of Bigfoot is also a notable moment in the game that is quite impressive, that is, if the voyagers are fortunate enough to see it.

Puzzles

With a game like The Search for Sasquatch, the assumption could be made that the puzzles could feel a bit out of context and arbitrary, but on the contrary, that is not that case at all. Each puzzle makes logical sense within the game, even if how it exists in the environment may be a bit more of a stretch. Adventurers are charged to complete tasks that perfectly fit within the context of a pursuit of Bigfoot, most of which involve trying to draw the creature from its hiding place.

Multiple puzzles in The Search for Sasquatch are somewhat logical only “because escape room.” It must be pointed out though, that this does not deter from the enjoyment of the game at all. Certainly, there are a few moments where the hiding place for a compartment or a particular riddle feels a bit off the wall, but actually this only continues to highlight the overall tone of this myth-like quest for a once-thought fictional being.

The puzzles are also just down right enjoyable. Mountain Time Escape Rooms has done an excellent job at providing an entertaining path en route to the lair of our large, hairy friend.

Overall

Breckenridge is renowned for its beautiful scenic views, outdoor activities, and vacation getaway style living. All of this makes it even more impressive that such a well-designed and developed escape game exists as a pseudo diamond in the rough in this little mountain town.

Mountain Time Escape Rooms is a mother-daughter operation in Breckenridge that has the feel and heart of a much larger escape franchise. The Search for Sasquatch could be dropped right into some of our favorite locations/companies and fit right in from day one.
