Who knew an art lesson could be so exhilarating?

Story

You and your friends take a trip to the museum when something goes amiss… it seems like you’ve been framed! Lucky for you, you happen to be the world-renowned local detective-in-training. You’ll have 60 minutes to solve the mystery and clear your name.

A variety of paintings on white walls, and a vase full of flowers that symbolizes something deeper: sounds like an art museum. So often escape games follow a theme of a museum with a stolen painting that is hiding in a vault somewhere surprisingly easy to reach. Boxaroo took this commonplace theme and created a game so much more compelling and exciting.

The theatrical experience from the moment the tour guide leads museum visitors into the gallery to the actual witnessing of three paintings being stolen is as real as it gets. The entire experience just makes sense.

Scenic

Boxaroo took the decor to the next level by creating a magical mechanism matched with perfect lighting and sound to create the robbery in front of visitors’ eyes. One second the tour guide is talking about the significance of the art when suddenly the lights go dark and turn back on to reveal the three masterpieces in front of them to be missing.

The designers of this game took the time to cater to every sense and set the mood that something has gone terribly wrong and it is imperative to find the three paintings. The most exciting aspect of the room is the HUGE wooden crate in the middle of the space that seems to be nothing but a simple box, but might reveal itself to have more than meets the eye.

Every art piece in the room looks fitting and real with an accompanying explanation of what the image means on a white pedestal. Everything in this game is more than meets the eye and that is what makes Conundrum Museum so incredibly exciting. Even experienced art aficionados may be surprised at what comes next.

Puzzles

The puzzles in Conundrum Museum cleverly center around the different art pieces in the room. Each painting or sculpture hides some hidden feature that can trigger something magical to happen somewhere else or reveal a secret.

What made the puzzles so clever is the integration of art into solving tasks. The explanations of each art piece not only educates but also provides insight on how to solve a puzzle with creativity and wit. A very exciting part of the game involved interacting with mystical colored lights illuminating from paint cans.

Variety of puzzles is not an issue here. All of the puzzles make perfect sense, flowing smoothly from one to the next. The investigation culminates in a very fun, exciting final task sequence that created one last ‘wow’ moment.

Overall

Conundrum Museum creates an exciting new take on the museum robbery. The theatrical beginning coupled with the clever integration of art themes into the puzzles creates a strong game that keeps every level of player on their toes.

Boxaroo’s passion to immerse players in a different storyworld from the beginning is what sets their games apart. Every detail is thoughtfully considered to have meaning and purpose. Nothing is as simple as meets the eye, leaving surprises guaranteed to create lasting memories.
