Avast, ye mateys! Arrrrrrrrr you ready for a high-seas adventure? Landlubbers need not apply, lest ye be prepared to face the depths of Davy Jones’ Locker!

The pirate captain Ravensbeard has been cheating you and the crew out of your rightful share of plunder! Now that hornswoggling scoundrel has barricaded himself in his quarters. You and your mates must break in to reclaim what be rightfully yours and send that scurvy dog to Davey Jones’ Locker. If you’re crafty enough, perhaps you’ll even commandeer the whole galleon.
All hands on deck!
Ahoy there, me hearties! We’ve just returned to the ship after a successful day of pillaging, rifling, and looting, and now it’s time to celebrate with our booty- wait, what do you mean the captain is keeping it all for himself?!? And he’s locking us below decks?!?
We have to break our way out of the belly of the ship and show Captain Ravensbeard that it’s OUR treasure hoard! Come on, all ye scurvy-ridden scoundrels! X marks the spot… where we become masters of the seven seas! Yo ho!

We start our swashbuckling journey deep in the bowels of the ship. The vast space contains the cargo hold, the armory, and the brig (where the remains of some poor soul are “hanging around”). Barrels full of provisions- gunpowder and the standard beverage of choice for buccaneers, rum- line the walls.
We can hear the waves crashing against the hull while the wind howls in the distance. The worn wooden planks underfoot and overhead let out ominous creaks. Flickering lanterns provide most of the lighting, casting an eerie glow throughout.
The Captain’s quarters have a bit more opulence, as a large window is framed by dark, heavy, velvety curtains. An intricately carved desk sits beside an upright piano, hinting at the Captain’s hobbies and enjoyments for when he is not off plundering and being an overall scallywag.
The ship’s wheel is also present, sitting high on a raised dais. There’s no view to the bridge, however, so steering and navigation might be a bit difficult. Be sure to keep a weathered eye on the platform where the wheel rests- we don’t want to have a need for any peg-legs or eye patches here!

PUZZLES The challenges found in the ship do an excellent job of enhancing the immersion into the storyworld. There are the standard locks, but there are also tasks that would test even the most stalwart of sailors.
Privateers can sharpen their fighting skills with the weaponry scattered about, and even practice their targeting with the cannon! We can hoist the colors and use nautical flags to signal any passing vessels.
The puzzles make use of many seafaring components- messages in a bottle, maps and charts, a compass, etc. We must use them to show that we’re sea-worthy members of the crew, lest we face the briny deep. The riddles are presented in a non-linear fashion, so multiple mariners can “swab the deck” at once, without having to worry about going overboard.

Maritime Mutiny is a well thought-out and executed adventure. It’s beautifully designed, and transports us to the piratical world of the vast ocean. While it’s not the most high-tech game out there, it does have some very fun features and special effects.
Every moment is filled with fast-paced excitement, and the quest to reclaim the loot from the greedy Captain Ravensbeard is filled with sea-faring satisfaction. Escape Room Herndon has a real treasure in this game.
Now, weigh anchors and get some wind in the sails, savvy?
