2020 / Keys to Greatness – Best Story

Even the best puzzles need a bit of spice to bring them to life in a believable way. Story adds a clear and defined purpose to any good escape game. When interwoven with a game’s puzzles, story adds a much welcome sense of urgency, clarity and inspiration to achieve the task at hand.

Escape Authority is honored to announce our 2020 Keys To Greatness – Best Story winners:

The Storykeeper

Locurio

(Seattle, WA)

It should come as no surprise that a game which calls itself ‘The Storykeeper’ is in contention for Best Story. Book curator Jak lost his most valuable treasure in a peculiar place, and a portal to another world must be open in order to retrieve it. Guests literally travel into the infamous book of Little Red Riding Hood and must bravely traverse wolf infested woods before they get eaten. Twists and turns along with a humorous jump scare keep the story moving forward ending with a satisfying conclusion worthy of a “Happily Ever After.”

Our full review of The Storyteller will be posting soon.

Lab Rat

Hatch Escapes

(Los Angeles, CA)

If you’ve not yet heard of Lab Rat, you must be living under a rock. And frankly, that makes you a perfect candidate to run this over-sized rodent test and prove you aren’t an idiot. Lab Rat masterfully weaves a story in and out of an escape game experience better than any other – full of irreverent humor, ridiculous puns and whole lot of sarcasm, all while hurling more than a few insults along the way.

Every second of this experience is a cinematic masterpiece – flowing like a big budget motion picture with a clear opening, middle and end. And just like any good summer blockbuster, be sure to stay past the credits!

Espionage

5 Wits

(Foxborough, MA)

Easily a viable contender for Best Story, Best Use of Actors and Best Immersion, simply put, Espionage draws guests into its storyworld in ways no other game can. 5 Wits takes story-driven family attractions seriously – and there’s none that define their mantra any better than Espionage at Patriot’s Place. From a compelling actor-lead preshow to the most jaw dropping climatic surprise of any escape game, Espionage never loses sight of its secret mission. Every moment is so rich in intricate attention to detail, on such a large scale, that it’s absolutely guaranteed to make even the most experienced of players feel like vital characters in the Hollywood-caliber story being told. You’ll be hard-pressed to ever evoke a greater feeling of “Wait, did that really just happen?!” It’s a story full of cinematic bombshell surprises worthy of the greatest motion picture blockbusters, authentically executed right before your very eyes.

Congratulations to our winners of the second annual Keys To Greatness – Best Story award!

With more than 1,000 games played across the site, being picked as one of the best three in the country is a well-earned honor to truly be proud of!

EAR Disclaimer

With so many deserving games worthy of recognition, our goal is to ensure these Keys To Greatness awards are attainable to all – not just those with blockbuster budgets that might be otherwise out of reach. As such, it’s important to note that we have, as much as possible, limited games to winning a single category – but every game will still be qualified to win the coveted Keys to Greatness – Best Game award, as well as the Keys to Greatness – Remote Play awards.

*Although the games I’ve personally designed are consistently very highly rated by both enthusiasts and newer players alike, I cannot in good conscience nominate an attraction I created. As such, those games and the venues that call them home have been intentionally omitted from consideration for any Keys To Greatness award.
