2020 / Keys to Greatness – Best Home Game

Home Games pack the magic, mystery and excitement of a brick and mortar escape room into the size of a small box. These experiences, like their name implies, are designed to be enjoyed by all ages from the comfort of their own homes. The very best home games become a proverbial rabbit hole to wonderland, jamming a far bigger immersive world into the confines of their small square package than one might ever guess from the outside – leading to adventures that somehow manage to evoke a genuine sense of playing an actual escape room in real life.

Escape Authority is honored to announce our 2020 Keys To Greatness – Best Home Game winners:

Mystery at the Stargazer’s Manor

ThinkFun

(Escape The Room)

A testament to the quality of ThinkFun’s product, Mystery at the Stargazer’s Manor was the very first escape room Home Game we played years ago, yet it still remains among our favorites on the market today. Clever puzzles and an intuitive flow transport players into the mindset of a physical room, evoking a flavor of authenticity. Simply put, we credit Mystery at Stargazer’s Manor for opening us to the possibility of Home Games in general.

The Heist | Vol. 1: Chasing Hahn

The Escape Game

(The Escape Game Unlocked)

Powered by one of the highest rated brick and mortar chains in the company, it should come as no surprise that The Escape Game Unlocked would produce a product worthy of awards. Vol. 1: Chasing Hahn acts as a storyworld continuation of The Heist, one of The Escape Game’s first physical rooms. Much like their in-person experiences, The Escape Game Unlocked is a Home Game jam-packed with polished quality, woken around a cinematic presentation that inspires a sense of being in a movie, all from the comfort of your living room.

The Adventures of Oz

Space Cowboys / Asmodee

(Unlock!)

At first glance, who would have ever thought a deck of cards could evoke the flavor of playing a real-life escape room? Not only does Unlock! do just that, but they pull it off better than any other Home Game on the market. The Adventures of Oz is a whimsical, wonderful storyworld befitting the classic novel that not only transports players from their couch into another world, but does it with a flow that could, as is, be used as the instruction manual to build an actual brick and mortar game equality worthy of a golden Keys To Greatness Award. The Adventures of Oz is the most authentic sensation of playing a brick and mortar escape game one can get without actually being there yourself.

Congratulations to our winners of the first ever Keys To Greatness – Best Home Game award!

With more than 1,000 games played across the site, being picked as one of the best three in the country is a well-earned honor to truly be proud of!

EAR Disclaimer

With so many deserving games worthy of recognition, our goal is to ensure these Keys To Greatness awards are attainable to all – not just those with blockbuster budgets that might be otherwise out of reach. As such, it’s important to note that we have, as much as possible, limited games to winning a single category – but every game will still be qualified to win the coveted Keys to Greatness – Best Game award, as well as the Keys to Greatness – Remote Play awards.

*Although the games I’ve personally designed are consistently very highly rated by both enthusiasts and newer players alike, I cannot in good conscience nominate an attraction I created. As such, those games and the venues that call them home have been intentionally omitted from consideration for any Keys To Greatness award.
